Training & One Day Open at Northampton Sailing Club

Post by Mike Shreeve » Wed Mar 14, 2018 8:18 am

May 19th - Training Day

Gareth will be hosting this and plans to make a start at 1100hrs with a talk, and probably rig and sail around 12. then on the water practise. Then a de-brief at the end of the day.

Food will be available during the day. Evening meal see note below.

May 20th One Day open

First start will be at 1100hrs back to back with the second race.

Lunch

Race 3 back to back with race 4, with one discard.

Races 2 & 4 could be a long distance race - dependant on suitable wind?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will there on Friday to let you in should you wish to be there early. Drop me a line for my mobile number.

Saturday Day - food will be available.

Saturday Evening dependant on numbers attending we may be able to persuade the caterer to do an evening meal, other wise we will have to go to a local pub?

Sunday Day - Food will be available.

Hope to see you all there.

Mike

Thanks Mike, this looks good.

Is camping possible at Northampton SC?
If not, can you recommend a nearby campsite that takes tents.
Thanks,

Scott.

Sorry I forgot to add that, reference camping?

There is plenty of Grass, and camping is free.

For those that have camper vans and want electric hook up, Yes that can be done and as I understand it the electricity is free. However I don't know where the cables are kept, let alone where the power feeds are - that would have to be sorted on the Saturday.

The bar can be open on both Friday & Saturday nights, and I will be in charge of that?

Just a timely reminder to get your boats sorted after their winter slumber, and also to get bottoms polished for Northampton.
:D
Rob Michael has confirmed its all in the technique - and a fast hard rubbing often produces a different outcome than expected.

Wake up you sleepy heads
Put on some clothes, shake up your bed
Put another log on the fire for me
Ive made some breakfast and coffee
Look out the window, what do I see
A crack in the sky
And a hand reaching down to me.........

beckoning all IC sailors to Northampton. Non attendance would mean that the next two lines could refer to you! LOL

Gaz :D

Timely Reminder Mr Gaz - thanks

I joined NSC in 2010, and each year I had requested an Open for Canoes, however last year when I stepped up to being a member of the Sailing Committee and made a request which was granted.

Whilst I am fairly sure that next year the Training would still take place assuming that the Association wanted another event.

However I also need your support for this Open, and I need a good turn out. I doubt the SC would allow another one if the turnout was poor.

I will be there on Friday 18th to let you into the site, however you will need to Email me before the event for my Mobile Number should you so wish to turn up on Friday!

Saturday/Sunday day, just buzz the gate intercom if arriving during the day, otherwise Email me for my Mobile Number if you are planning to arrive Saturday Evening.

See you there

It is my intention to be at Northampton with as many Slurps and Nethercots from WKSC as possible. I hope to arrive on Thursday afternoon.

As Mike says, we really need a good turnout at this new event and similarly all others this year if we are to get clubs to support us in the future with our own separate opens.

It is often said we don't have enough Opens and yet without support we will not be invited back or even have the opportunity in the first place - you can't have it both ways people so come on, look hard at the Open's scheduled for this year and do your very best to turn up, regardless of the weather. Support the organisers who put a lot of effort into making them happen.

We've moved all the opens to later in the year to avoid the worst of the British weather in early Spring but of course it's all pot luck. Remember the event still goes ahead regardless of the conditions so we can still use the time available to train or tune boats or just go down the pub if the conditions are not ideal.

Please be aware that it would require a letter from your mum if you aren't able to attend.

 Yes you better had - but you better make sure you deliver it in person and bring your boat whilst you're at it.

As an additional incentive, if you are sailing at Northampton....you wont be able to watch 'the wedding'!

Wedding avoidance tactics now in force - 'Sunshine' is on driveway and ready to roll bright and early on Saturday morning!
As I have new sails, will there be any suitably qualified and equipped bods about over the weekend to do the measuring bit?
I'm keen to get this done before getting to Stone. Except the sails of course, is there anything else I need with me to make this happen?
Thanks for any advice.

regards,
Scott.
