Europa Cup 2012, Plymouth
Dates are now confirmed:- Saturday 4th to Tuesday 7th August.
An opportunity has presented itself where we will be able to share the Europa Cup with the Laser 5000 class. They will also be holding a euros and are expecting 15-20 boats. Sharing the event should allow us to keep the entry fee under £100 per boat otherwise entry fees are likely to be in the region of £130.
What are peoples thoughts on sharing? Especially interested in hearing from the AC fleet as it would have a greater impact on you guys?
The boats are to be based at http://www.mount-batten-centre.com/ who have rooms and electric hook ups for motor-homes on site. There is also a hotel just down the road http://www.hotelmountbatten.co.uk/
I am still looking in to the options for camping as we may not be allowed to have any tents on site. The nearest campsite is 4 miles away, But we may be able to use a local school's playing field which would be within a mile (about 20mins walk) of the site.
I will post more information before the end of November If anyone has any further questions then either reply below or contact me by e-mail: chrishampe@yahoo.com

Re: Europa Cup 2012, Plymouth
That's great news Chris - I've already booked accomadation at the Centre and found them very welcoming.
I would have no problem sharing the event with the 5-tonners, they're a similar speed on the water and I'd assume we'd have individual starts.
Also good publicity for the IC/AC's sharing an event and mixing with other sailors who could be potential canoe sailors of the future.
Thanks to Chris for getting the information out in good time.

On the subject of sharing events, I have been contacted by the D-One class association who also wish to share some events with us. Again this will help keep the costs down . I have lost the contact details for their class rep, think Steve Bowen made contact, if you have the details please advise, thanks.
Extended the sharing theme to Ullswater next May for the D- One and FD's , we need a few more starters to keep the open there. Any problems please advise.

Re: Europa Cup 2012, Plymouth
Hi,
As both a 5k sailor and occasional canoe sailor, I would of loved us to have our championships together, but I believe we are holding our 5K Europeans during Plymouth Regatta from the 23rd to the 27th July,so unless the canoe Europeans are also planning on the same week I am afraid we won't be together, but might mean I can do both if I can persuade my wife to have 2 weeks down there and then return straight back up for start of term!
Sorry to be the pessimist.

Re: Europa Cup 2012, Plymouth
I've been speaking with the local 5k rep and he says the dates are yet to be finalised. The club would prefer to run the 5k's with us from the 4th august. The Plymouth regatta is a bit of an odd event as it is evening race. This is causing a potential problem with rescue boat crews who may not be able to give a full day and evening on the water.

Hi Chris,
are you still intending to invite the Taifuns? I think there would be a handfull of boats making the trip along with the ICs.

Hi Arne,
Yes the invite for the Taifuns still stands, Do you have any ideas how many boats will come from Germany for both IC and Taifun?
I was hoping to have finalised the camping arrangements by now, But I am still waiting for the local council to approve the use of a nearby playing field for us to camp on. Sadly I dont think this will happen before Christmas.

Mountbatten centre is getting booked up - no en-suite rooms left. However the hotel has reasonable rates. I'm booked there.

I might bring the big boat down to sleep on if I can arrange for someone to take the IC for me (Max hopefully) and for someone to help me sail it down there and back.
If I do, there'll be spare beds available for a share of the mooring costs.
If you're Solent/South/London-based and fancy helping me to sail it down, shout up.

Hi Bob,
If you are talking about AC266, and me? Then I am afraid not, I would love to, but it is out of my price range. Thanks for the offer though, and I hope you find someone to take the boat.

No Max, I was referring to Max Ried who's also a Canoe sailor at the same club as me.
