Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
Here we go again then! Oxford Open. Do you wish to have the ' Annual Dinner' at The Chequers Inn again this year in Cassignton.
I'll give an initial call to check they are receptive to it but if I could have say half a dozen yes's I'll assume it's a goer from the fleet and advise from that stage meal booking arrangement etc.
with you all.

Re: Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
As a thought, anyone have any other thoughts on maybe a change of location?
Accomodation could be difficult on a local basis....and possibly expensive!

Couple of places that spring to mind:
The Talbot (just after the Swinford Toll Bridge), excellent food and slightly cheaper than the Chequers though whether it could handle upto 30 people is a different matter. They also do B@B.
The Evenlode - recently refurbished, just off the A40 (about the same distance away from the club as The Chequers). We havent been in since the refurb but it used to have a large restaurant downstairs. Large car park and did do groups.
The Trout - Wolvercote (where Insp Morse was filmed (Pub scenes) - good food but a little pricey.

Ok, fine. Chequers only has 2 rooms anyway at £140 / night so maybe an alternative will work. Steve AC 310

Re: Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
Hi all.
A couple of details for the Oxford Training/Open.
Friday training; I will run a couple of practice starts followed by 3 or 4 short races (one lap). On the water for 13:00 and off the water at 16:00.
We have new caterers who will be on site, so lunches/all day breakfasts will be available if required.
Saturday will be the usual 4 races 'back to back'. Each race will be about 45 minutes. Start time for the first race will not be before 12:00. (Briefing at 11:00, course to be advised subject to wind). SI's for Saturday are the standard Oxford Sailing Club open meeting SI's as posted on the OSC website. Any amendments will be posted on the official notice board on the day.
Sorry to say that OSC has put it costs up this year, so I will have to charge £12.50 for Friday and £15.00 for Saturday. Please let me know if you are intending to sail on the Friday, as I need a minimum of 6 boats to cover the cost of the safety boat hire.
Regarding food for the evening, there are a couple of other options available subject to where people are staying:
The Hand and Shears at Church Hanborough and the George and Dragon at Long Hanborough both have a large restaurant area. Price is similar to the Talbot and the Chequers
The Turnpike at Yarnton is larger but difficult to get 30 people in one place due to the building layout. Price is slightly cheaper but only by a quid or so.
The White Heart at Wytham is new to the game as they have a great new chef who has recently moved from the Boot at Barnard gate, the price is similar to the Trout.
The Boot is therefore currently without a permanent chef as he has moved to the above, so we don't recommend it at the moment!!!
I believe SteveB will be co-ordinating this.
For people wanting to stay overnight in motor homes there is bad news. Due to problems with a previous fleet, this year Thames Water are not allowing anyone to leave their vehicles in the car park overnight. there is however a campsite 400 metres up the road on the way to the A420 (details on the OSC website).
Regards
Simon

Re: Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
That's great Simon. Just spoke to White Heart in Wytham,. Very helpful. They have availability for sat/7/oct.
I need to give some sort of commitment tomorrow so I shall call late afternoon to advise them we need an initial table for about 25 which can be tweaked. They're happy with this.
They expect website menu to change a bit before 7 th with new chef.
If ok after tomorrow I'll confirm here and perhaps people can start indicating their intentions.
Once we've got some decent numbers I shall make a firm booking and then arrange for menu selection....probably you visit site and let me know your requirement.
No ideas on accomodation. This place is quite close to Reservoir.
Any objections to venue please advise.

Re: Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
Hi Steve, please put us down for two on the Saturday night. I will be sailing both days.
Shaun, not sure how you are fixed for a mainsail, I am happy to bring my Hyde spare if you would like to use it.
Thanks

Re: Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
Sailing both days and 2 for the Saturday evening please.
That would be brilliant Martyn, thank you, as I'm not sure how long my make shift repairs will last if there's any sort of wind, prior to taking a month off for repairs (boat and myself!), holidays etc.
Thanks
Shaun

Re: Oxford Open Evening 7 th October.
When I contacted Chequers to cancel provision booking they advised they have 2 rooms at £125/ night!.... contrary to earlier info at £160/ night! I've booked one and at this moment one remains. It's quite near to White Hart...by cab.

Ok all, shows on the road!
Spoke to White Heart and they confirm acceptance of booking for 20-25 +\- a bit.
The new menue will be forwarded to me in the next day or so and I shall advise.
If you can then let me know your requirements I will forward to Baz (owner).
Final date for confirmation and menu selection is Monday 2nd October. After that date please only liaise with The White Heart for booking detail. Adam or Baz, 01865 244372
Table reserved for 7.30 pm Sat, 7 th October.
There is accomodation at Jury's on the Wolvercote ( not sure of spelling ) roundabout and Holiday Inn and Travel Lodge on Pear Tree Roundabout all quite near but probably needs cab.
