Re: What is an "Avalon built boat?
Uhmm.. . . I'm weighing in from the US because I bought US 102 in 1968 from an avid sailor who was moving to Australia. It came with class-issued USA sail numbers on the mainsail (US 102, they weren't using USA yet). Sailing it is a transcendental experience when conditions are right, but I'm aging ...

Re: Making a slow start
I have a 1960s Avalon that looks identical to "Torment". . . including the bacon slicer. How have folks dealt with that? . . perhaps some links to photos? . .

old IC question
I have a mid-1960s cold-molded mahogany Avalon IC, US #102. I realize that it will never be competitive. She was designed to an earlier rule, is overweight, has a fixed sliding seat carriage, etc., etc. Nevertheless, she sails fine, and if I keep her, I plan to make some changes this Winter, like re...

Re: IC Qs
Thanks for the info. Looking forward to results from Germany. I sail on a small lake in NC, USA. I encounter power boat wakes but not open-water-type waves. At this time , I'm straightening out my rigging/launching methods and getting some "tiller time". Any major modifications would be done this Wi...

Do you need a movable seat carriage? I saw reference to a Nethercott hull being sailed, and I'm wondering how old it is and what mo...

USA 102
USA 102, a 1960s Avalon, has been repaired and sailed. Most of the rig is original, but I expect to do some modifications over next Winter.
